2022 Accomplishments
Spring Highlights:
-
WAYBS formed as a 501 C3 non profit. Website launched.
-
Spring training trips to Strike Zone funded graciously by a few of our coaches .
-
Skills Weekend at Union Arena, Tee Ball through Majors—registered a record number of kids to play baseball at all levels.
-
Formed a new Cal Ripken sanctioned league for our area called Twin Rivers (Ottaquechee and Connecticut Rivers) with Windsor, Lyme, Mascoma, Woodstock, and Hartland baseball communities.
-
Renovated Vail Field: Valley Turf Services recut and completely renovated the field using new infield material - DuraEdge (same material used on MLB fields!)
-
New bleachers compliments of the Vermont Lake Monsters.
-
New uniforms compliments of the Woodstock Farmers’ Market, the Vermont Lake Monsters and the Woodstock Rec Department.
-
Cap Ripken Majors and Minor participated in our first All Star Weekend Tournament. Our Twin River league sent players from Woodstock, Windsor and Lyme to Hartford’s Maxfield Sport Complex Fields for a Vermont State Tournament. Ironically, Vermont sent their first team to the Cal Ripken World Series from that tournament play.
Summer Highlights:
-
Moved Vail Field Bike Path to create room for the 3rd base dugout and new fencing
-
Organized summer league play combining Majors and Minors coached by Kent Underwood, John Malcolm and Patrick Crowl. Thank goodness for Kent’s superior organizational skills balancing Majors games with Minor players often to get 9 players for games. Way to go Kent!!
-
Clinic and lunch at the Vermont Lake Monsters home field, Centennial Field in Burlington. The kids had a one-hour clinic with players and coaches from the Lake Monsters with lunch and a game for parents and kids. What a great day. Truly memorable as after the game, all the kids got to run the bases and all received free Lake Monster baseballs and bobble heads.
Fall Highlights:
-
While several of our league players participated in Central Vermont’s fall baseball program, WAYBS worked very hard to get Vermont Recreation Inc to replace all1st base, 3rd base and home backstop areas, complete with a new batwing to help make walking behind home plate safer for the patrons.
-
Chippers limbed back trees for dugout construction
-
Schulz Excavation dug out and prepared the for the pouring of the concrete pads for the dugouts.
-
KMI Concrete Co. began pouring concrete right before the major snow storm in December. Way to go KMI sneaking in at least one dugout before the weather got too crazy.
